Fair Isle high neck sweater in brown, khaki green and cream: the patterned sweater that takes centre stage all winter.

Some sweaters support the look and others define it, and this one belongs to the second group. Its bands of zigzags, diamonds and geometric motifs recall the traditional sweaters of the northern isles, giving it a cosy feel of mountain cabins and winter afternoons. As the pattern already has plenty of presence, it's best paired with plain pieces: olive chinos that pick up the khaki tone of the sweater, a fine-striped shirt with the collar peeking out for a layered look, and suede boots or trainers. It's also a great choice for festive gatherings and Christmas lunches.

The multicolour pattern is made in jacquard, a technique that knits yarns of different colours together to form the design within the knit itself, rather than printing it. Each yarn is a single solid colour, so the shades stay crisp. It's knitted in 7 gauge, a medium-weight knit, and the blend of 60% cotton and 40% acrylic gives it a warm, pleasant wool-like feel that's lighter and easier to care for than wool.
