Gurkha trousers take their name from the Gurkha regiments of the British army, who in the early 20th century wore high-waisted trousers fastened with buckles, without the need for a belt. Today they're one of the most recognisable pieces of men's tailoring, and an elegant way to stand out. As they don't need a belt, they look best with the shirt tucked in, so the waistband and buckles are on show. Pair them with a dark blue or white shirt and tassel loafers, like in the photo, or with a tucked-in knitted polo for a smart casual look.

Their signature feature is the high waist, which fastens with adjustable side buckles so you can fit the trousers to your size. The double-pleated front adds room through the hips and a clean drape down to the hem, which is finished with turn-ups. The front fastening is concealed, with a zip and metal hook, for a cleaner finish. They have two side pockets and two welt back pockets with buttons. The fit is slim, and the fabric blends polyester, viscose, wool and elastane for a fluid drape, wrinkle resistance and a touch of stretch.
